동그란 이야기들, 네모난 얼굴들, 구불거리는 시간들.

둥그르르

둥그런 태양을 중심으로 동그란 지구가 원을 그린다. 반은 낮이 되고 반은 밤이 되며 일부는 봄이오고 일부는 가을이 지난다. 지구의 곁에 머무는 달은 일정한 속도로 회전하며 늘 같은 얼굴을 보이는 대신, 매일같이 다른 그림자를 입어가며 다양한 실루엣을 그린다. 세상은 강강술래하듯 둥그렇게 돌아가고, 그 안에서 태어나고 살아가는 이야기들은 바람결에 은은한 소리를 내는 방울들을 만든다.

사각사각

텅 비어있는 공간에 흰 벽을 세워 구멍을 내고 창과 문을 단다. 벽의 안쪽은 작지만 깊고 비밀스러운 누군가의 집이 되고, 그 안에서는 그만의 이야기가 피어난다. 요란하고도 고요한 머릿속을 지키는 벽은 얼굴이 되어 바깥 세상을 오감으로 들이고 안쪽 세상을 표정으로 내이는 연결고리가 된다. 변해가는 얼굴의 한 시절은 사진과 그림의 사각의 틀에 담겨 고이 간직되고 기억된다.

구불구불

서로 부딪히며 살아가는 각종 동그라미와 네모 사이의 틈을 시간이 구불거리며 채운다. 곧게 뻗은 오선지 위에서 춤추는 음표들과 같이 닮은 듯 다른 얼굴들과 이야기들은 촘촘한 시간의 물결 위에 잠기고 떠오르며 끊임없이 흐른다. 물결은 바람이 되어 떠나고 비가 되어 내리거나 눈이 되어 스며든다. 소리와 화면, 공간과 시간이 얽혀있는 비디오의 삶이 만들어진다.

다양한 곳에서 기록, 수집, 창조되는 이미지들은 비디오의 형태를 입고 일선적으로 진행됨과 동시에 원형으로 순환한다. 의식의 이치에 맞게 이어지기도 하고 무의식의 장난처럼 여기저기로 튀어가고 연상되면서 꼬리를 물고 간다. 화면의 움직임에 얹은 음악은 장면과 분위기에 그만의 리듬을 더한다. 모든 요소들은 서로의 템포에 어울려 소리, 화면의 시공간에서 살아간다.

비디오로 만들고 상영함과 함께 진행되는 나의 삶에서 드로잉은 또 다른 삶의 방식이자 흔적이다. 위에서 쏟아지고 가장 깊은 곳으로 가라앉는 기억들에서 지금의 주체를 건져내고 잊지못할 순간들을 흰면에 담는다. 글로 일기를 써 내려가듯, 빛으로 사진을 찍듯, 점을 찍고 선을 긋는다. 검은 잉크가 종이의 거친 표면에 앉아 내려 깊숙히 자리를 잡고 마르는 시간, 그리고 공간을 만나 벽에 걸리고 사람들을 맞이하는 시간 등은 과거의 추억과 현재를 만나게 하고 또 다른 추억을 선물한다.

Circular Stories, Rectangular Faces, Twisty Times.

Round

Around the giant sun, the round earth draws a circle. The half becomes day and the other becomes night, here comes spring and there passes autumn. The moon staying near the earth, though rotating at a constant speed and showing always the same face, wears different shadows and changes the silhouette every night. The world goes around like people dancing in a circle, where the stories are born and live inside, making little bubbles ringing the calm bels with a gentle wind.

Square

In the empty space, white wals are built where the holes are filed of windows and doors. The cozy and secret part inside the wals gives a homey place to someone, letting his/her own lives come out. The wals protecting both loud and calm mind make the face, welcoming the outside world through the senses and showing the inside world with facial expressions. The aging and changing faces of certain eras are contained in the rectangular picture frame and

freeze their memory.

Zigzag

The winding time fils up the gap between various circles and rectangles. As if notes float on the musical staff, multiple faces and stories, resembling and distinguishing each other, roll out endlessly, diving into and flowing onto the time waves. Once the water leaves the ground by the blowing wind, raindrops run down to moisten the grass and snowflakes sit on the frozen floor.

The life of video, audio-visual and spatio-temporal, takes place with multi-dimensional images. Images which are taken, colected and created from everywhen and everywhere are linked and folowed in both linear and circular ways, that is to say with a logic sometimes conscious, sometimes unconscious. The background music adds its own rhythm not only audible but visual and spatial.

Besides the creation and diffusion of the video work, drawing is another way and trace of the life. It discharges myself from overwhelming souvenirs and ensures not to forget scenes which would hide somewhere in the memory. As I write a text with letters and take daily photographs, I draw the points and lines on the plane. Thus, I frame a volume in the flat surface, I encrypt a scene in the series of drawing modules, I trace a new horizon by the composition of drawing fragments.
