Arkas opened its fifth art center in Alacati. Arkas Art Alacati, established with the support of Cesme Municipality, will host contemporary art events in Izmir. It features permanent and temporary exhibition halls and workshop areas, serving as a hub for cultural and artistic activities across all disciplines.
Arkas has opened its fifth art center in Alacati, in Izmir’s Cesme district, furthering its efforts to become “Izmir’s Art Route” by offering exhibitions and events to art enthusiasts in its various art centers throughout Izmir.

Arkas Holding Chairman Lucien Arkas said, “Arkas Art Alacati is our 5th art center. We opened our first art center in Izmir in 2011. 13 years ago, we began our journey in art investment, and we will continue to do so. Cesme should be celebrated not just for two months but throughout the entire year. We have designed an art center that people can visit in both summer and winter, capable of hosting cultural and artistic events and gatherings across all disciplines. We feature two exhibition halls: one for permanent exhibitions and another for temporary exhibitions. Our permanent exhibition is the Victor Vasarely exhibition, originally opened in Istanbul in 2017 and subsequently at the Arkas Art Center in Izmir. He is the pioneer of the Op Art movement and an artist I greatly admire. His grandson, Pierre Vasarely, who is the President of the Vasarely Foundation, is a friend of mine. At the Lucien Arkas Hall, works from the Arkas Art Collection are exhibited. One of the greatest needs in Izmir’s, and even Türkiye’s, cultural and arts scene is to increase the number of venues where young artists can connect with audiences. At our new center, Arkas Art Alacati, we aim to address this need. We have designed our temporary exhibition to feature young artists, modern, and contemporary art. Additionally, we aim to support young artists with an international contemporary art exhibition titled “New Lands,” curated from private collections. Every museum includes a café where visitors can enjoy both the art center and a place to sit and chat. We envisioned Monreve Patisserie inside as a meeting place for visitors to the art center.”

BEYOND BORDERS: YOUNG ARTISTS FROM TÜRKİYE AND AROUND THE WORLD MEET IN NEW LANDS
Aiming to contribute to the development of contemporary art by creating a space for young artists in its first season and upcoming seasons, Arkas Art Alacati is preparing its first temporary exhibition titled New Lands, curated by Dr. Necmi Sönmez. The exhibition features 157 works by 155 young artists under the age of 40, encompassing pieces created in various art branches and techniques such as painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, video and installation. Featuring an international selection of contemporary art from private collections in Türkiye, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and France, the exhibition for the first time initiates an institutional discourse on the diverse tendencies of the young generation of artists whose impact and innovative experiences resonate within the Turkish art scene.
From China to South Africa, from Azerbaijan to the Czech Republic, artists living in very different geographies and working from the realities of their own worlds refer to how global influences shape individuals without borders or stops through their works brought together at Arkas Art Alacati.
The exhibition will present works by many international artists including David Shrigley, Alice Guittard, Adam Vackar, Amir Khojasteh, Ekaterina Gerasimenko, Eugenia Vereli, Fernao Cruz, Itamar Gov, Jinoos Misaghi and JiSun Lee for the first time in Türkiye. The Antoine de Galbert Collection in Paris is also taking part with special contributions to the selection.
